Whidbey Island Dance Theatre company members
who have continued on in the dance field, post-WIDT:

Sommer Albertsen (1998)-- has been dancing since she was three years old – ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, and musical theater. She always enjoyed creative movement. She was a Therapeutic Recreation major at Western Washington University, where she earned a BA. Roughly five years ago she found Nia in Susan Tate's class at The Dance Space in Seattle. That experience unveiled the real magic of dance, freedom, self love, and self healing. She knew immediately that she was born to share Nia! Sommer received her Whitebelt Nia Teacher certification in March of 2011 and has been loving teaching all over the wonderful community of South Whidbey Island and some in Seattle. She just received her Blue Belt Teacher Certification March 2012 in Honolulu, HI and moved to Pahoa , HI. She has since returned to Whidbey Island, where she began her own dream business, Island Joy Wellness.

Andrea Burr (2004) is passionate about dance and recently moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in it. Last summer while visiting LA, Andrea simultaneously made it to the end of the Lady Gaga auditions, and signed with MSA Agency! This past year, Andrea lived in China for 6 months teaching dance and performing. Upon return to the states, she co-directed a hip hop dance show in Seattle. Andrea is an established dancer in the Seattle community and looks forward to making a similar reputation in her new home! Some of Andrea's credits include: Cruz Control’s show at the Moore Theatre, Seattle Seahawks halftime show, guest performer in The Monsters of Hip Hop show in L.A., backup dancer for the Vietnamese Music Awards, and the Young Tanzsommer Austria Tour with Westlake Dance Center Performing Group. She has received scholarships to Steps on Broadway in NYC, Millenium Dance Complex in L.A., Debbie Reynolds in L.A. and various convention scholarships from Monsters of Hip Hop, Company Dance, Hollywood Vibe, L.A. Elite, Encore, and West Coast Dance Explosion. Along with dance, Andrea loves fine arts and foreign languages. She studied 3 years of hindi language and graduated from the University of Washington in 2009 with a BFA in ceramics.

Karla (Gilbert) Crouch (2002) is thrilled to be returning to the stage on beloved Whidbey Island. Karla grew up on South Whidbey and her passion for dance and song was strongly supported in this amazing community. Karla earned a Bachelor's Degree in Musical Theatre from Cal State, Chico. She then moved to Southern California and worked in professional theatre for the past six years. Karla landed leading roles in theaters such as Lawrence Welk, Carpenter Performing Arts Center, Moonlight Amphitheater and the Starlight Bowl. Shows included CATS, Oklahoma!, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Annie, Nine and Aida. Her favorite role was Minnie Fay in Hello, Dolly! under the direction of Dan Mojica who directed and choreographed the debut of Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. Karla would like to thank Charlene Brown who helped shape her craft at a young age and for having her back for the 20th Anniversary of The Nutcracker. Karla would also like to thank her mom, dad and brother for their unending support and to her new Crouch family for all their love and cheers! A BIG thank you to her husband Michael for joining her in her dreams, front row that is. www.karlaruthgilbert.com
